Where is the receipt?

The common issue I used to run into was misplacing receipts. We can't afford to lose/misplace bills and fail to use the warranty services. Sometimes bills are printed with low quality paper/ink and you can't read them after few months.

To handle this issue, I started using this technique, its working for me. I thought of posting here so that you might find it useful.

If you have smart phone with internet connection, you will find it very handy. You can do the same, using your scanner and laptop/computer though.
  • Install a Scanner App and Google Drive app on your phone.
  • When you buy something and receipt is important , scan the receipt. If you don't have the scanner app installed, you can take a photo of the receipt.
  • Login to Google Drive using your gmail credentials.
  • Create a folder in Google drive, say My Receipts.
  • Upload the scanned receipt to Google Drive. More info on Google Drive.
  • If you are using laptop/computer to upload receipts to google drive, you may want to install Google drive client on your laptop so that you can configure it to sync your receipts folder with Google Drive automatically.
Instead of Google Drive, you can use Drop Box service also, but I prefer Google Drive.

So... Where is the receipt? With this technique, now you know its right on your phone, you can open Google drive and use it anytime.

Hope this helps.
